Citizens, law enforcement agencies, community groups, businesses and local officials in over 16,500 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories and military bases worldwide will join forces to mark the 36th Annual National Night Out (NNO) – a police-community partnership event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW). Nationally, millions of people are expected to participate in ‘America’s Night Out Against Crime’ this year. NNO 2019 national corporate sponsors are Ring, AT&T, Renewal by Andersen, Academy Sports + Outdoors, A&W Root Beer and Assoc.
“It’s a night for neighbors and local law enforcement to come together under positive circumstances and strengthen their relationships,” said Matt Peskin, creator of the event and its National Project Coordinator.
Along with the traditional “lights on” and front porch vigils, there will be thousands of block parties, cookouts, parades, festivals, ice cream socials, neighborhood visits by local police, flashlight walks and other festivities.
National Night Out is designed to:
(1) Heighten crime prevention awareness;
(2) Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
(3) Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships;
(4) Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.
Peskin added, “It is an extraordinary opportunity for citizens and first responders to meet, greet and eat.” A great night for everyone.
