Cajun Posse Mounted Shootings– Deridder, La. – July 12-14 – Cowboy mounted shooting is a speed event that pairs the speed of a horse and the accuracy his rider. The rider shoots single action .45’s from his/her mount while maneuvering through an obstacle course of barrels and balloon targets. The balloons get popped with black powder ammo which keeps it safe for horse, rider, and spectator.
165th St. Patrick’s Irish Picnic and Homecoming– McEwen, Tn. – July 26-27- Established in 1864, some 21,000 pounds of barbecue pork will be slow cooked over hickory bark coals during a 24-hour laborious process, ready for hungry lunch crowds Saturday morning. Early visitors may want to feast on the 4,200 chicken halves that will be prepared by lunch time Friday.Plan to stay for the free live music and dancing that begins at 6:00 P.M. in the outdoor bandstand. If you’re feeling a bit of the Irish luck, try your hand at the numerous games.

Appalachian String Band Music Festival – July 31-Aug. 4- Cliftop, WV- A five day mountaintop gathering of musicians and friends with contests, concerts, workshops, square dances, camping and a hymn-sing. West Virginia masters are presented to an audience of more than 3000 musicians and string band music lovers from around the world. Over the history of this festival, more than 20 foreign countries and 48 of the 50 states have been represented, with many returning year after year to this much-loved festival.
