Memphis in May kicks off this weekend with the Beale Street Music Festival and rocks all month long. Here is a look at everything going on in Memphis this month:

  • May 3-5, 2019: Beale Street Music Festival. The Killers, Dave Matthews Band, Cardi B, Gary Clark Jr., Moon Taxi and more will perform. Tickets are still on sale.
  • May 15-18, 2019: World Championship BBQ Cooking Contest. Recognized by USAToday as the “Most Prestigious Barbecue Contest,” the Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest is a four-day competition held in Tom Lee Park on the banks of the Mississippi River in downtown Memphis, TN. Nearly 250 teams travel from around the world and across the U.S. to compete for the title of World Champion and a share of the more than $115,000 in prize money. The Contest draws more than 75,000 attendees, including teams from twenty-six states and six countries, from as far away as Japan and the Czech Republic to compete in the championship pork categories of Ribs, Shoulder, and Whole Hog, as well as the ancillary competitions of Hot Wings, Sauce, and “Anything But Pork.” The World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest also offers an amateur category, the Patio Porkers, which allows the backyard grillers the opportunity to test their skills against best in barbecue.   • May 25, 2019: Great American River Run. The Great American River Run is a half marathon and 5K race taking place in downtown Memphis on Memorial Day weekend. The half marathon course leads racers along the banks of the Mississippi River while 5K runners experience a route through downtown Memphis.   • May 25, 2019- Celebrate Memphis. Memphis in May joins the city’s bicentennial commemoration with a new event: Celebrate Memphis on May 25, 2019! We’ll be honoring our city’s rich heritage and colorful history as we ring in a new century of soul.
