3,516 rental cars were destroyed in a brush fire Friday, April 3rd, next to the Fort Myers Southwest Florida Airport.
According to reports, the cars were being stored in an overflow grass lot next to the airport. Dry conditions from below average rainfall in March and warm weather have increased the fire danger across Florida.
The fire is being investigated by the State Fire Marshall.
The fire was not contained until late Friday evening.It was said to start around 3:00 that afternoon. Multiple firefighters were called to the scene and helicopters dropped water for hours.
Flights were not delayed, however, passengers had to be bused from the employye parking lot.
