Millennials are trading extravagant weddings for smaller, intimate ceremonies in the South. And there are many reasons why.

A survey conducted in 2018 has involved over 2,000 millennial couples, 79% said they prefer intimate and casual weddings over lavish affairs. It was not so long ago when every marrying couple feels pressured to throw an elaborate party at a high-end venue, with a 200-guest list, and expensive gowns and suits they would probably never wear again.

But as people become more money-conscious and value ‘experiences’ over material things, modern couples are starting to appreciate the beauty of intimate destination weddings.

If you’re getting married soon, here are some of the top reasons why you would want to celebrate your wedding in the south:

1.You’ll Save Money (Lots of it)

The average cost of a traditional wedding in the United States is $35,000. That’s a lot of money to be spent in a single day and could have been used on other things like buying a family car, downpayment for a home, or as capital for a business. Destination weddings, on the other hand, can cost around $8,000-$15,000, depending on where you are going. You need not get a second job or empty your savings account just to have an unforgettable celebration. If you fall short of funds during your trip, you can rely on personal loans. If you plan ahead and make advanced booking or reservations, you’ll definitely save more money.

2.You Skip the Stressful Part of Planning and Preparation

The average couple spends 13-18 months planning for their wedding. Without help from professional planners, expect to experience a huge amount of stress along the way. On the other hand, if you choose to have a destination wedding, all you need to do besides booking a flight is to choose a resort or venue that will take care of everything else. But of course, you want to put a considerable amount of time researching to find the best place to celebrate your special day.

3.Memorable Moments with the People You Love

By choosing to have an intimate celebration, you are trimming down your guest list from a couple of hundreds to about 20 or 50. Since your guests are going to spend time, money and effort to be able to attend your wedding, you know that those who will show up on your big day are the most important people in your life. What’s more, the celebration doesn’t just end with the party. You’ll also have an epic bonding time with your family and closest friends as you all lounge by the beach, learn how to surf or hike challenging trails.

4. Honeymoon Comes Easy

After the exchange of vows, there is another special moment that every newlywed couple looks forward to – the honeymoon! Since you’re already in a beautiful place, why not extend your trip for a few more days or perhaps, weeks? A great romantic honeymoon destination in the South is Florida which is known for the endless sunshine, unspoiled beaches, restaurants of all kinds with picturesque ocean views, and an abundant of newlywed-friendly resorts and hotels.

5. You Get to Explore New Places

Southern USA is home to some of the most stunning destinations in the country, including the Cades Cove which is considered by many as a national treasure, the Baltimore House (the largest house in America), Everglades National Park which was declared as a World Heritage Site, and the Georgia Aquarium (the second largest aquarium in the world).

6. More Quality Time Together

Research shows that travel together strengthens the relationships of the couple and leads to a higher level of relationship satisfaction. What’s more, they are more likely to’ share similar goals and desires, handle differences well, agree on how to spend money, and laugh and have fun together.

7. Beautiful Weather

If you prefer a beach wedding, then you should choose to celebrate in the South that features semi-arid to an arid climate. Florida, which is home to some of the most stunning beaches in the country, has the warmest weather year-round. So it doesn’t matter if you have your wedding in summer or over the Christmas season, you can expect to have a sunny, bright, and memorable beach wedding.

With such amazing spots and wedding-friendly resorts, there are plenty of reasons why you should celebrate your wedding in the South.
