This is the ultimate Fall comfort food y’all. And my recipe is easy peasy. Takes about 10 minutes prep and about 40 minutes cooking time ( or more if you slow simmer). You may alter this to your tastes. I prefer lots of garlic
Here’s what y’all need:
- 6 Sweet Italian Sausages ( or Hot Italian if you so wish)
- 24 oz jar of your favorite Italian Sauce
- 4 Garlic Cloves
- 5 tbsp chopped garlic
- 5 leaves chopped sweet basil leaves
- 8 oz. fresh sliced portabello mushrooms
- 12 oz. bag fresh Italian Sweet Peppers
- Italian Bread Baguette
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1/4 cup white wine or chicken stock
- 1 Sweet Italian Onion
This can be done in a deep skillet with a splatter screen or a shallow pot.
Sausage and Peppers Directions
Drop sausages and 4 garlic cloves whole into hot pan with olive oil (cover with splatter screen if handy)
While sausages are browning, chop onion, slice peppers into rings and clean seeds.
Once Sausages are browned ( but not completely done) pull out of pan and let drain on paper towels.
Throw onions and peppers into pan and sautee until they start to turn brown and soft. Add ‘shrooms and chopped garlic and sweet basil
While the above sautees for about the next 5 minutes, slice Italian Sausage into 1/4s.
Turn heat down to low, and pour in wine or chicken stock and stir. Basically, you are de-glazing pan (i.e. getting all the good bits)
Add sausage, tomato sauce and put splatter lid on top if needed.
I like to low simmer mine uncovered for about 30 minutes ( 2-3 on your stove)
Tear off a piece of bread, spoon mixture on the plate and enjoy!!!
