easter-egg

Easter is just around the corner, and most folks today are looking for more “green ways to do things.

Well, dying easter eggs isn’t as hard as it seems and you can probably find most items in your produce section or in your cabinet.

Making The Dye:

  1. Bring  the dye matter (see below) and 2 cups of water to a boil, for each color. Turn heat down to low and simmer, covered, for 15-60 minutes until desired color is reached. Keep in mind that the eggs will be several shades lighter so it’s best to go for deep, rich hues.
  2. Let it cool to room temperature.
  3. Pour the dye through a mesh strainer into bowls/mason jars and add 1 tablespoon of vinegar for each cup of dye liquid.
  4. Add hard boiled eggs to the dye and place it in fridge until the desired color is reached. The longer the better color you get. So 24 hours before minimum would be best.
  5. Once desired colors are reached, remove and place on a drying rack. A Little olive oil or coconut oil rubbed on will give it a small shine.
